| Clean up your desktop Your computer desktop is very much like your physical desk at work or home. Leave lots of 'stuff' lying around on it and it looks cluttered & overwhelming. Sort the shortcuts you actually need and use into different sections of your desktop and delete any shortcuts you don't use (only the shortcuts, not the programs!) And most of all, resist the urge to use your desktop as a storage facility. Utilise the virtual filing cabinets (folders) you've set up to store all of your files. The result? A cleaner desktop and a stress-free you! |
Add Comment Schedule a regular digital declutter As with your physical world, a regular digital declutter keeps everything in check and stops your computer and other devices getting clogged with "stuff". Delete unwanted Internet Favourites; programs & apps you no longer use as well as shortcuts which may be cluttering your desktop. Once you've deleted these items, empty your computers recycle bin or run a program such as CCleaner. Most operating systems also have a "defragging" or system maintenance function which helps to clear up left over file fragments and optimise your computers performance. If all of this is a bit too technical - check in with your computer tech. person for their help.
We use Microsoft Outlook in our house, but there are others depending on your personal preferences - Google "email client" to check out the options for yourself. Create virtual filing cabinets A great way to organise your digital life is to think of each area as a filing cabinet. We all have sites saved in our "Internet Favourites"; multiple email accounts receiving a mountain of information every day and photos galore of our family & friends. Imagine if all of these things were just piled in a corner (a corner of your computer or digital device). What happens when you want to retrieve something? Firstly, you run for the hills because it's too overwhelming! If you are brave enough to get in there and look....you can't find anything! Solution: Create folders and use them! Name your folders something meaningful to you for easy retrieval and you'll be well on your way to an organised digital world. You may never need the back up but you'll be glad you have it if you do :)
Ideas for "merchandising" your wardrobe: * Sort your wardrobe zones by colour - lightest to darkest to make coordinating outfits easier. * Match accessories with an outfit and store them in your wardrobe together (this particularly works for formal outfits) * Group handbags and shoes together by style eg: casual; business; formal * If you have the space, put a wire dress form in your wardrobe to store & display scarves; jewellery, etc. (This is one of my all-time "wants"!!)
We all think and live differently so what makes sense to you may not necessarily makes sense to a friend or even your partner. The general concept of zones however, will make putting away your clothes easier and stop the rummaging when you are piecing together an outfit for the day :)
