Now this tip may seem absolutely obvious, but it is amazing how many times we (and yep, I'm including myself here too!) start the decluttering process in one room of our house....discover something that belongs somewhere else.....go to that somewhere else.....get sidetracked and start decluttering that somewhere else too!
Meanwhile, you now have two areas of your home in disarray....probably more than one pile of stuff to either donate, sell online or give to a friend. And you are now feeling terribly overwhelmed, wishing you had never started and desperately wanting to run for the hills!!
My solution to this is:
1. Allocate your decluttering area
2. Set up some baskets/boxes - could even be some empty washing baskets outside the border of this area
3. Label them - e.g donate; return to its home; toss in bin, etc - whatever makes sense to you
4. Get decluttering and try not to leave that space! (This is of course not always going to be possible - eg your youngest is calling out from the loo after # 2's! - but give it your best shot!)
At the end of your session, you should have one space which has been decluttered and a few baskets which need to be dealt with. Finish the job by taking the donate basket out to the car; return lost items to their rightful home; toss other items etc.
You will feel less stressed about the process and you can definitely sit back and enjoy that cuppa! You deserve it :)
